PHP 5 support and Elite Bulletin Board
Elite Bulletin Board has always had the idea of being on top of the game with adding the features that you, the users want. I also try to keep current with the flow of times and today I plan to make a mark to help make that happen.
Version 2 will mark the last release of Elite Bulletin Board that will support PHP 4. Version 3 will now be coded to support PHP 5.2 and newer, PHP 5.2 offers a lot to the future of Elite Bulletin Board such as a cleaner codework setup, better handling of AJAX & XML integration, and so much more.
Sadly though, many hosts are still using PHP 4, which is what made PHP what it is today, but is a very old release of PHP. PHP 5 has been out for three years now and only a small handful of hosts actually provide PHP 5(the host I'm hosted under provides PHP 5.2).
With that, I have decided to join the Go PHP 5 initiative, which consist of a growing list of developers & web hosts to make PHP 5.2 more accepted among the PHP hosting community.
By February 5th, 2008, the first development release of Elite Bulletin Board version 3 will make PHP 5.2 a requirement; this will allow Elite Bulletin Board to support features that I couldn't add to the version 2 release.
Tell your host to upgrade their version of PHP to at least 5.2, in doing this you'll be able to enjoy future releases of Elite Bulletin Board and the long list of popular programs that have decided to no longer support PHP 4.
